Winston Churchill
Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in
nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in,
except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield
to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might
of the enemy.

A person searches the world over for what he needs, and then
returns home to find it.

The chief danger of the Church today is that it is trying to
get on the same side as the world, instead of turning the
world upside down. Christ expects us to get results, even if
they bring opposition and conflict. God give to us an
intense cry for the old-time power of the Gospel and the
Holy Ghost!

Blue Skies Shining Above Or
Wrecks Below It's summer, late afternoon, and
you're driving home. Your road travels over a high knoll
with a view of a distant horizon. You look, and just as you
do a faint cloud partially obscures the sun, revealing the
most beautiful sky you've ever seen. Lacy white clouds touch
the sun and steam down to a blanket of white clouds resting
upon dark mountain peaks. Behind and above the clouds the
sky runs shades of dark blue, forming an almost celestial
backdrop for the streaming clouds dancing slowly across the
sky. You pull off the road and watch, feeding your soul and
spirit upon it's beauty. You wish your family was with you
to see it.
When the dancing clouds move on, you continue your way
home. Then just a few miles from your house, traffic slows
to a crawl—ahead you see police cars and an ambulance.
As
your car moves slowly forward, you crane your neck to see
what is obviously an accident. As you pass the scene, you
are horrified at the twisted wrecks, the life squad,
policemen, and firemen hurrying about to extract victims
from inside the smashed cars. You cannot help thinking,
"What if I had gotten here just a few minutes sooner, that
could have been me?" You feel relieved when you
clear the wrecks, traffic renews its normal speed, and you
continue home.
Now a question: You
park your car, hurry into your house, and at your first
opportunity, tell your family about what—the blue skies
shining above or the horrifying wrecks below? Do you share what will
cheer, edify, and bless, or do you share what will shock, horrify, and
depress? Think carefully on
this—and the effects of it.
“If anyone desires to come
after Me, let him deny himself, . . ." (Luke 9:23)
To deny yourself, presupposes and requires an
internal conflict, a conflict between your desire and God's
will—a moment when what you want to think, say, or do
conflicts with what you know God wants you to think, say, or
do. Without that internal conflict, there is nothing for you
to deny. But the conflict itself isn't a sin, that will come
or not come depending on which side of the conflict you go
with.
Two years ago I wrote a book titled,
How to Be Filled With Spiritual Power.
At first we were going to title it,
How to Be Filled With Healing
Power, because healing
is the focus of the book. But the power you'll get is more
than just for healing: it also brings power for deliverance,
ministering the Baptism in the Holy Spirit (not just having
someone repeat words and then pretend, but power that shakes
them through and through as they're baptized in the mighty
Holy Spirit), discernment of spirits, great boldness to
speak the Word of God, and much more. So we titled it
How to Be Filled With Spiritual Power. It's based on the
miracle ministry of John G. Lake.
Now here's a bit of secret about the book. The two people
we call Steve and his wife are actually Beverlee
and me. Someone will ask, "Why did you use phony names?"
Well, as the author I did not want us competing with John Lake
or seem to be putting ourselves equal with him. But here's the
thing: If anyone, especially someone who has access to a lot
of sick people—which is anyone in
any church who is allowed to pray for the sick,
will do what is
outlined in the 10 chapters, they will develop the kind
of spiritual power they've only read about, and maybe
dreamed about.
Now it's too long and too personal a story to tell you
why the power ended for me, but that's why I've got the
10 chapters, so you won't make the same mistakes I did.
Listen, when the power first started coming,
I was studying and teaching Mark
16:17-20 all the time. One day I asked the Lord
why He was having ME do all this and teach it. Naturally, I
was fishing for a compliment, but He said, "Because if you
can learn to do it, anyone can." So unless you're someone
besides "anyone," I guess that includes you.
Only problem is that we live in an instant world, and we
want instant Christianity. Hardly anyone wants to pay the
price for the time and effort it takes to develop spiritual
power. They just talk about it, wish for it, and justify not
having it by saying foolish things like "it takes a special
anointing from God." Hogwash!
Any
Christian, and certainly any church group, can get all the
spiritual power Christ promised us—if
they
want it badly enough.
The only thing you have to ask
yourself is, "Do I?"
See you at the house!
