SOME THOUGHTS

If the Holy Spirit is not working in you and through you, it is because you are not in the relationship to God that enables the Holy Spirit to work in you and through you.

Put yourself into such a relationship with God that the Holy Spirit can do in you and through you what the Word of God says He will do.

Would you be willing to be martyred for the doctrines that are taught in your church?

Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10).

Revival always begins with the fear of God in the heart of sinners.

God is not obliged to send revival just because we pray, but He has bound himself by covenant promise to send revival, to heal our land, when we humble ourselves, confess our sins, and pray (2 Chronicles 7:14).

It is easy to lead sinners to a cross that leaves them uncrucified.

Never preach salvation to unrepentant sinners.

If God died, would it make any difference to your church service?

When the expressions, "the wrath of God" and "the wrath of the Lamb" are negated, Christianity loses its force.

When Christianity is made convenient and easy, it loses its vitality.

The power of Christianity is that it is the only force on earth that can save sinners from the wrath of God and the wrath of the Lamb.

Pastor, you must be serious if you want your congregation to take you seriously.

And you must be spiritual if you want to advance your congregation spiritually.

If the sword of the Word of God ever come to you, don't lean away from it, lean into it and let it pierce you. Yield yourself to its cutting word within you.

To walk in the light is to walk in spiritual knowledge and certainty—it is to walk in the Spirit.

The greatest miracles are the miracles of the heart.

To walk with God is to walk by faith into the unknown ahead of us (Hebrews 11:8).

The Dying of a Christian
In World War 2, an army officer named Col. David Marcus was killed in action. Before he was buried the contents of his pocket were put together and sent to his widow.

She was greatly comforted by one thing that he was carrying when he died. No! It was not a letter addressed to her; it was a little bit of paper entitled, "The Ship." I do not know where the Colonel got it. I only know how much it meant to her. The letter said:

"I am standing up on the seashore. The ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch her until at length she is only a ribbon of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, 'There! She is gone!'

"Gone where? Gone from my sight -- that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side, and just as able to bear a load of living freight -- to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her, and just at the moment when someone at my side says, 'There! She is gone!' There are other voices ready to take up the glad shout, 'There! She comes!' And that is the dying of a Christian.

Christ in you, the hope of glory.

In . . . now . . . then . . .

Hallelujah!

In the Works
Bev is still working on the R. A. Torrey book on prayer. But she's put it on hold for a while to proofread the book I'm just finishing so we can get it to the publisher next week.

The book I'm doing is a new book on the works of John Newton, author of "Amazing Grace." It will be a Bridge-Logos Pure Gold Classic titled The Amazing Works of John Newton. It should be published in January.

Haven't put this newsletter out since August because I've been battling a nasty that suddenly showed up inside me. But I'm doing well with lots of prayers from good born-again Christians, good doctors (main one is also a born-again Christian) and the care of a loving Christian wife.

God willing I will survive this battle and hang around for a few more years. Long enough to get all things straightened out and all our family settled in the Lord. Then I'll be more than willing to go Home. Now being eighty, I have no desire to hang around longer after that than the Lord has determined for me.

As always your prayers for Bev and me are appreciated.
