QUOTES & STUFF

Climbing to Heaven Adolph Monod
"When I shall enter the invisible world, I do not expect to find things different from what the word of God represented them to me here. The voice I shall then hear will be the same I now hear upon the earth, and I shall say, 'This is indeed what God said to me; and how thankful I am that I did not wait until I had seen in order to believe.'"

If we would devote our energies to obeying the Word of God as found plainly in the Bible, most of us could stop praying for 95% of the things that we pray for.

What Is Needed to Get to Heaven?
A man appeared at the Pearly Gates and started to go through, but Michael the Archangel stopped him and said that he needed one million reward points to get into heaven.

The man replied, "Well, I've been a minister for 40 years and I had a big church and ran conferences and helped many people with my sermons."

Michael looked in a small book and said slowly, "Being a minister for 40 years, running conferences, helpful sermons—that’s 5 points."

"Five points!" exclaimed the man. "Well, I've also been a good husband and father and raised three children and took good care of them and was always kind and loving to my wife and children."

Checking the book again, Michael said, "Being a good husband and father is good for 3 points."

"Three points!" said the man. "Well, in our church I started a food program and ran it for 30 years and helped many, many, poor people and others in need."

Looking in the book once more, Michael said, "Feeding and helping needy people is worth 2 points.

Exasperated, the man loudly proclaimed, "And I faithfully tithed all my income every week!"

Not even bothering to check the book, Michael said, "Tithing faithfully is worth 1 point."

"I can't believe it!" shouted the man. "That only makes 11 points—I'll never get to a million! If that's all my good works are worth I might as well just throw myself on the grace of God!"

"Bingo!" said Michael. "Go right on in."

There's a Whole Lot of Healing Going On!
In Christian circles there has always been an interest in divine healing, of course, since no one likes to be sick or die before what we consider "our time." But in recent months there has been an acceleration of interest because of happenings in a certain part of the country. Some are calling it a revival, but that's not true because it consists mainly of signs and wonders.

The first sign of a revival is open confession of sins, then deep repentance, then a full turning to Christ, and then increasing and continuing sanctification and holiness. Many years ago someone aptly said, "True revival is like Judgment Day." Two years after the beginning of the revival in the Hebrides Islands (1949-1950) they counted the true conversions by those who came to the prayer meetings. Far as they could tell, only three young girls had not been truly saved, for they were the only ones not attending. So what we have happening in a certain part of the country is something other than revival.

People are traveling there from all parts of the country and from several other countries, mainly because the evening meetings are being broadcast on an international television channel. And if the reports are accurate, a number of people are being healed. But divine healing is never isolated to a certain place or church building. Jesus said, "These signs shall follow those who believe," not those who live here or there or attend this church or that or run here or there. Now I've always been of the mind that the best way to get to the point of believing is to immerse yourself in everything you can find on that thing you're trying to believe. The Bible puts it this way, "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."

To that end, we offer a number of books on healing that will help you to believe, if you immerse yourself in them and do what they say. Remember, faith for healing never comes easy—unless God sovereignly imparts it—but when it comes it always does its work. As Dr. Charles S. Price used to say, "You can no more have faith without results then you can have motion without movement." So over on the right are some of our books on faith for healing; some are to inspire you through testimonies of what God has done for others, and some are to show you how to get the faith you need.

In the Works
Well, I finally got my new book, Christ Is God's Everything For You, finished. It's been through the editing process and is now in the publisher's hands. A good editor named Dave Womack worked with me on it; helped me out in several areas—yes, even editors get their writing edited. It's hard to step back from your writing and see areas that need a bit of tweaking, especially after you've spent several years on a manuscript, as I did on that one. The book should be out in January, although the folks at Bridge-Logos said they'll try to get it out a little earlier if there's a spot for it.

A while back I suggested to the publisher that I would like to do a book on John G. Lake, since I still have a lot of research material on him. Title would be: John G. Lake: A Man of Power. I did want to do on a royalty contract, but editorial work is slow right now so they asked if I would do it on a freelance basis. I agreed, since I figure at my age there's no need of being concerned about long-term royalties. And I do want to do the book.

Beverlee edited books for a couple of authors and now she's revising an R. A. Torrey book: The Power of Prayer and the Prayer of Power. We're changing the title a bit to The Power of Prayer and Praying with Power, which is more what it's about. It's been a great book for years and I know she'll make it even better. It will be in the Bridge-Logos Pure Gold Classic series.

Like always, Beverlee and I would appreciate your prayers for us and our work.
